The Californio Ranch Horse Association has been established to preserve the horsemanship skills and traditions of the Californio vaquero. For some time, these skills have been used by the cowboys of California, the Great Basin, and elsewhere. It is our hope that, through educating the public and nurturing the next generation of horsemen, that we can make sure that this rich heritage does not fade away...
News at a Glance...
Hello to everyone!
Spring has come to the Sierras and we're busy getting ready to receive cattle
for the summer. I'm sure all of you are gearing up after the long winter
as well. We'll have new stories and new pictures to share with everybody
and we hope that you'll send in your stories and pictures too.
As I mentioned last month, we set the date for the '09 Grand Fiesta. It's going to be August 1st and 2nd, 2009, at Caldwell Ranch in Alturas, CA. More details will follow.
Thank you to everybody who
has supported us...We look forward to hearing from you soon!
We want to extend a special "Thank You" to Ray Ordway for contributing to our organization. Ray is the real deal, a true Californio. When people like him take the time to support us, we know that we're on the right track...Thank you my friend.

They sat in the shade of the peppertrees
with Spain's descendants between their knees.
From their saddles the riata tied,
offered up by the selected hide.
All around was a golden glow
known only to the Californio.
